Guardians of Hutridurga: The Megalithic Stone Circles of Karnataka

High up in the dramatic landscapes of Hutridurga, a silent assembly of ancient stone circles stands watch over the plains. Dating back to Karnataka’s Megalithic Age, these meticulous structures were raised thousands of years ago, likely as sacred monuments to honor a tribal chieftain or a revered figure of great importance.

As one of the few exceptionally well-preserved megalithic sites remaining in the state, their massive, intentional geometry is so distinct that it can easily be spotted from space on Google Earth! They serve as a powerful, enduring reminder of the deep-rooted prehistoric engineering and mortuary traditions that shaped early South India.
